Alberta Immigration Draws: May 2025 AAIP Update

Alberta is making waves again in the Canadian immigration scene! On 9 May 2025, the province released the latest updates for its Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), outlining results from six recent draws held between 29 April and 8 May. These selections focused on Alberta’s key sectors—construction, farming, aviation, and healthcare—all of which are experiencing labour shortages and strong demand for talent.

Altogether, 295 skilled individuals received invitations to apply for permanent residency through targeted AAIP streams. On top of that, 165 more candidates were invited via the Rural Renewal Stream on 5 May, pushing the total number of invitations issued under AAIP this year to 1,125.

AAIP 2025: Year-to-Date Breakdown

As of 9 May 2025, here’s how Alberta’s AAIP allocations stand:

Category Total Nominations for 2025 Nominations Issued Spaces Remaining Applications in Process
Overall AAIP 4,875 1,896 2,979 3,189

With nearly 3,000 spots still open, Alberta’s immigration doors remain wide open for qualified candidates. The program is particularly focused on recruiting workers who are already contributing to Alberta’s economy or are ready to settle in the province’s less populated regions.

Which AAIP Streams Are Most Active Right Now?

1. Alberta Express Entry Stream – Priority Sectors

  • Draw Dates: 29 April, 30 April, 6 May
  • Total Invitations: 59 candidates
  • Target Sectors: Construction, Agriculture, Aviation
  • Remaining Spaces: 281

This stream is linked to the federal Express Entry system and is perfect for candidates with experience in Alberta’s in-demand sectors. To be eligible, applicants must already have a profile in the Express Entry pool and demonstrate relevant work experience in one of the priority fields.

2. Dedicated Health Care Pathway

  • Draw Dates: 1 May and 8 May 2025
  • Invitations Issued: 71 candidates
  • Remaining Spaces: 358
  • Current Assessment Date: 11 March 2025

Designed specifically for internationally trained healthcare professionals, this stream continues to be a fast-track option for nurses, doctors, and other medical workers. If you’re a healthcare worker looking to move to Canada, Alberta is actively seeking your skills.

3. Rural Renewal Stream

  • Draw Date: 5 May 2025
  • Invitations Issued: 165 candidates
  • Remaining Spaces: 601
  • Assessment Dates: 13 April 2024 (no work permit), 7 June 2024 (with work permit)

This stream is ideal for those who are open to living and working in Alberta’s smaller towns and rural communities. Local employers in these areas are actively hiring, and the province is offering permanent residency pathways in exchange for your commitment to these regions.

Why Alberta Continues to Attract Skilled Immigrants

Alberta’s economy is strong, and its immigration programs are tailored to match real labour shortages. If you’re a skilled worker, Alberta offers several benefits that make it one of the most attractive provinces in Canada:

  • Lower CRS scores than federal Express Entry draws
  • Frequent occupation-specific rounds of invitations
  • Dedicated pathways for healthcare, rural, and tech workers
  • Almost 3,000 spots still available for 2025

To boost your chances of being selected, it’s a good idea to work with an RCIC (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant) who understands the intricacies of the system and can help you apply under the most suitable stream.
