SINP May 4 Intake Fills Most Sector Caps on Opening Day
Saskatchewan opened its third 2026 intake under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) on May 4, with most sector limits reached within hours of launch. The intake targeted employer submissions in three capped sectors, with retail and accommodation-related occupations filling immediately.
Provincial data shows that only the trucking sector remained open shortly after launch, with 28 positions still available at the time of reporting. The rapid closure of the other categories highlights continued demand in specific service-based industries.
The intake forms part of a scheduled series of openings in 2026, as the province manages a fixed annual nomination allocation across priority and capped sectors.
- May 4 marked the third SINP intake window of 2026
- Retail and food services sectors reached capacity the same day
- 28 trucking positions remained available after intake opened
- Total intake limit set at 400 positions across three sectors
- Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis

Overview of the May 4 SINP Intake
The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program periodically opens fixed intake windows for employers seeking to support foreign workers in designated sectors. On May 4, two intake launch times were set depending on the sector classification.
Retail, trade, and other services, along with the trucking sector, opened at 8:30 a.m. CST. Accommodation and food services followed later in the day at 12:30 p.m. CST.
Caps for retail and accommodation categories were reached shortly after opening. Trucking remained the only sector with available submission capacity at the time, reflecting lower immediate uptake compared to other sectors.
Position Allocation by Sector
The province assigned a total of 400 positions for the May intake window, distributed unevenly across the three capped sectors.
Accommodation and food services received the largest share, with 240 positions allocated. Retail, trade, and other services, as well as trucking, were each assigned 80 positions.
Each Employer Pre-Approval (EPA) submission counts toward the intake cap, and once the numerical limit is reached, no further applications are accepted for that sector during the intake period.
First-Come System and Intake Closures
SINP intake windows operate using a first-come, first-served system, which has consistently led to rapid closures in high-demand sectors. The May 4 intake followed this pattern, with non-trucking sectors reaching their limits within hours.
Previous intake rounds earlier in 2026 showed similar trends. During the March 2 intake, caps for retail and accommodation-related sectors were also reached quickly, while trucking positions were not fully utilized.
The January 13 intake, which offered 300 positions, saw immediate closures in non-trucking sectors as well, although trucking positions remained open for several days before reaching capacity.
Reason for Sector Caps
The province introduced caps on specific sectors to regulate how nominations are distributed throughout the year. Over time, a significant proportion of nominations had been concentrated in service sectors such as food services and retail.
By setting fixed limits, Saskatchewan aims to maintain balance across industries while preserving capacity for occupations identified as priorities in the provincial labour market.
This approach also allows immigration allocations to align more closely with workforce needs in areas experiencing sustained demand.
2026 Intake Schedule and Remaining Windows
Saskatchewan has outlined six intake windows for 2026. With three already completed, additional openings are scheduled for July 6, September 14, and November 2.
At this stage, the province has not published position limits for the remaining intake dates. Earlier communications indicated that each intake window would remain open for several days, although closures have occurred much sooner in practice for some sectors.
The number of available positions in each future intake may continue to vary depending on program management and allocation usage throughout the year.
Nomination Allocation and Sector Distribution
Saskatchewan has been assigned a total of 4,761 provincial nominations for 2026. As of the most recent update, 1,233 nominations had been issued across all categories.
The province distributes these nominations between capped sectors, priority sectors, and other occupational categories under specific percentage limits.
Only 25 percent of the total allocation is reserved for capped sectors. Within this portion, accommodation and food services accounts for 15 percent, while retail and trucking are each limited to 5 percent.
Priority and Non-Capped Sectors
The remaining 75 percent of nominations are directed toward sectors identified as priorities, along with other occupations outside the capped categories. Priority sectors include healthcare, agriculture, skilled trades, mining, manufacturing, energy, and technology.
Unlike capped categories, applications tied to these sectors are not restricted to specific intake windows and can be submitted continuously. They are also open to candidates applying from outside Canada.
Employer-linked applications in priority sectors are not subject to the same work permit expiry conditions that apply to capped sectors.
Progress by Sector in 2026
Recent provincial data shows varying levels of allocation usage across sectors. Priority sectors had used 29 percent of their assigned nominations at the time of reporting.
Among capped sectors, retail, trade, and other services recorded the highest usage at 31 percent. Accommodation and food services followed at 26 percent, while trucking usage stood at 19 percent.
Other occupational categories outside the main groupings had also utilized 19 percent of their allocation.
Processing Timelines and Application Steps
Employer Pre-Approval applications are typically processed within six weeks, provided all documentation is complete. Between January and March 2026, processing times were reported to be faster, averaging approximately four weeks.
Employers must submit an EPA after identifying a candidate and extending a job offer. Once conditionally approved, candidates are required to confirm job details within a set timeframe to finalize the process.
In capped sectors, EPA submissions are only accepted during intake windows. Additionally, candidates associated with these applications must generally hold work permits with six months or less of remaining validity.
Ongoing Adjustments to Allocation Use
Following each intake, Saskatchewan reviews application volumes and remaining capacity across sectors. Adjustments may be made to redistribute unused nomination spaces where demand differs from initial planning.
This mechanism allows the province to adapt to changing labour needs while staying within its annual allocation limits.
The next scheduled update on nomination totals is expected as part of the province’s quarterly reporting cycle.
Further updates on SINP intake activity and nomination distribution are expected with upcoming intake windows scheduled later in 2026, including the July 6 opening.
