The successful candidate will offer critical support to individuals in their homes, working one-on-one to ensure clients live safely and comfortably. This is a physically demanding but highly rewarding position, and we’re looking for someone who is ready to jump in and start as soon as possible.

Job Responsibilities

As a Personal Support Worker in a home setting, your daily tasks will include:

  • Supporting clients with personal care needs such as bathing, grooming, and dressing
  • Providing companionship and emotional support to enhance their quality of life
  • Helping with light housekeeping like cleaning and tidying up living spaces
  • Assisting with daily exercise routines such as short walks or stretching

This role requires someone who is comfortable working independently and can adapt quickly to each client’s unique needs.

Basic Requirements

To be considered for this PSW position, you should meet the following qualifications:

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Completed high school (Secondary School Graduation Certificate)
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar caregiving or support role
  • Valid and up-to-date certifications, including:
    • First Aid Certificate
    • Personal Support Worker Certificate
    • UMAB (Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour) Certificate

Soft skills are just as important! We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Punctual, honest, and reliable
  • Organized and flexible with scheduling
  • Patient, compassionate, and respectful towards others
  • Excellent at oral communication and interpersonal interaction
  • Able to take initiative and work independently when needed

Work Environment and Conditions

You’ll primarily be working in the client’s or employer’s home and may need to travel to different site locations. A performance review will be conducted annually to assess progress and development.

Physical Requirements

This role does come with a fair amount of physical activity, so it’s important you’re comfortable with:

  • Bending, crouching, kneeling, and standing for long periods
  • Walking long distances and performing repetitive tasks
  • Working in a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods
