About the Role: What You’ll Be Doing

As a nursery worker at Countryside Garden Center, you’ll play a vital role in nurturing and maintaining a wide variety of plants and trees. This is a hands-on position that requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a love for nature. Your daily tasks will include everything from planting and pruning to maintaining greenhouse environments and applying pest control measures.

Daily Responsibilities Include:

  • Harvesting and transplanting seedlings and rooted cuttings
  • Cleaning and maintaining greenhouses
  • Mixing and preparing different soil types for planting
  • Operating climate control systems to create optimal growing conditions
  • Applying fertilizers, insecticides, and fungicides as needed
  • Pruning, tying, and securing trees, shrubs, and other plants
  • Writing simple daily progress reports
  • Identifying and reporting signs of pests or plant diseases
  • Watering and caring for nursery stock, gardens, and lawns
  • Maintaining clean and organized work areas

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluency in English
  • 1–2 years of related work experience in nurseries, greenhouses, or landscaping is preferred
  • Ability to lift loads up to 23 kg (50 lbs) regularly

  • Proven reliability and punctuality
  • Team-player mindset with the ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail and good hand-eye coordination

Work Environment & Conditions

This isn’t your typical office job. You’ll be working outdoors in all kinds of weather — from hot summer days to damp mornings and even chilly conditions in refrigerated areas. The role is physically demanding and requires a high level of stamina. Expect to be on your feet for long periods, bend and crouch frequently, and manage repetitive tasks with care and consistency.

  • No public transport access — a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required
  • Personal steel-toed safety boots are mandatory
  • Experience operating tools and machinery such as chainsaws, forklifts, tractors, sprayers, and irrigation systems is a definite asset
