How This Calculator Works

What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is Alberta's Provincial Nominee Program, previously known as AINP. The main pathway for temporary workers in Alberta is the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS), which uses a points-based Expression of Interest (EOI) system.

To be eligible for the AOS in 2026, you must be working in Alberta on a valid temporary work permit in an eligible occupation. Your EOI score is calculated based on education, language proficiency, work experience, ties to Alberta, and your job offer details.

Alberta also offers an Express Entry Stream for candidates who are already in the federal Express Entry pool and have strong ties to Alberta. For those candidates, Alberta sends Notifications of Interest (NOI) rather than running a traditional EOI draw. Competitive AOS EOI scores in 2026 typically range from 50–75 points, though this varies by occupational demand and Alberta's annual nomination allocation.

What Does Your AAIP Score Mean?

Under 45 — Build Your Profile

Below typical AOS draw cutoffs. Focus on extending Alberta work experience, improving language scores, or obtaining a permanent job offer. Consider also strengthening your CRS score for the Express Entry stream.

45–65 — Competitive Range

Within range of many AOS draws. Register your EOI immediately and monitor draws. Gaining Alberta-specific experience or a rural job offer can push you above the cutoff quickly.

65+ — Strong Candidate

Highly competitive for most AAIP draws. Ensure your EOI is submitted and updated. Also check your CRS score — with a nomination you'll receive +600 federal points for PR.

Frequently Asked Questions — Alberta PNP 2026

What is a competitive AAIP score in 2026?
Alberta Opportunity Stream EOI draws in 2026 have typically invited candidates with scores of 50–75 points, though cutoffs vary by draw and occupational category. Candidates with an Alberta job offer, strong language scores, and Alberta work experience consistently score highest.
Do I need to be in Alberta to apply?
For the Alberta Opportunity Stream, yes — you must currently live and work in Alberta on a valid temporary work permit. The Alberta Express Entry Stream selects candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and does not require physical presence in Alberta.
What is the difference between AAIP AOS and Express Entry Stream?
The Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) is for temporary workers in Alberta who may not be in the Express Entry pool. The Express Entry Stream targets candidates already in the federal Express Entry pool who have strong ties to Alberta such as previous work, study, or family. The two streams have different eligibility criteria and scoring.
What happens after I receive an Alberta PNP nomination?
An Alberta nomination adds 600 points to your federal Express Entry CRS score, essentially guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence. You must then submit your federal PR application within the deadline specified by IRCC.
