Manitoba Work-permit Extension

On May 8, 2024, Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced the approval of Temporary work permit extension of workers in Manitoba addressing the labor market shortage.

Here are some quick facts and a summary of the entire concept of the Manitoba Work Permit Extension.

  1.  Decisions are taken with huge consideration for moving temporary residents to permanent residents ‘For Manitoba specifically, more than 10,000 people transitioned from worker status to permanent residence in 2023.’ – IRCC
  2. This temporary measure will allow these workers to continue working while the province processes their PNP applications. The province expects that “eligible foreign nationals will receive an official nomination from Manitoba and eventually become permanent residents” within two years.

Who is Eligible?

Applicants who applied for EOI (expression of interest) before 10 May 2024 are eligible for an extension of the work permit for the period of 2 year. However, MPNP is still inconsistent with the international graduate and Skilled labor draws washing out the expectations of people waiting for their draw to be drawn out. Lets hope for everybody’s best and people get what they deserve.

If you have not applied for an Expression of Interest (EOI), you can calculate your MPNP points to see if you are eligible. If you are, you can then apply for an MPNP EOI.

How to apply for Manitoba work permit extension?

The process of applying for extension of Manitoba is still unclear but it seems like it will be same as applying for work-permit extension as last year. we look forward to IRCC to provide more information so we provide the best of Information.

Documents needed for work permit extension?

As explained earlier, the process is still unclear but we suggest to get following documents ready

  1. Passport
  2. Id document
  3. Expiring work-permit
  4. EOI assessment
  5. Job letter

Conclusion: We believe this is the so far best decision taken by government to support labor shortage and help people to extend their stay as temporary resident and giving them ample time to get their permanent residence.
